New Tools for DirectOut PRODIGY
DirectOut announces its latest additions to the PRODIGY toolset, managed and controlled by globcon.
DirectOut’s flagship PRODIGY range has received new powerful and innovative audio tools that reflect its adoption across a broad selection of applications:
- Live (control rack hubs, system alignment),
- Broadcast (long-distance tielines; baseband<>IP and IP<>IP bridges),
- Remote Production (Mix-minus matrices, earpiece feeds, commentary processing)
- Installed (zone distribution, immersive production/monitoring)
The newly added processes and tools include:
- AutoMix – DirectOut’s reboot of this audio staple adds additional flexibility and creative opportunities
(MP Add-on license) - TruePeak meters – inter-sample peak metering completes the EBU R128 Loudness metering
(MP Add-on license) - MirrorMode – transfers all or selected settings to network linked units
- Mission-critical device backup
- Command distribution for shared or system-wide control events
- Rapid set-up copy and transfer
(MC Essential, MP Essential)
- Summing buses – mix any selection of input signals and, for the MP, those generated internally
- Monitoring
- Monoing
- Talkback
(MC Advanced, MP Advanced)
It’s now clear that new and Covid-blocked projects and tours are being scheduled and planned, but while we were “away” exercising with Russell Brand’s kid brother or learning how to tap dance, it’s possible you may have missed previous additions to the PRODIGY repertoire.
Here’s a quick summary:
- FastSRC™ – low-latency sample-rate conversion with automatic protection against loss-of-sync at MADI or AoIP ports
(MC Advanced/MP Essential) - Input Managers – intelligent switching to backup signal paths
(MC Advanced/MP Essential) - Groups – multi-channel control of any level, processing and I/O parameters
(MP/MC) - EARS (Enhanced Automatic Redundancy Switching) automatic and instantaneous transparent changeover on loss or failure of dual-redundant playback systems
(MP/MC) - SMAART v8 integration – rapid high-resolution audio system alignment with captured responses translated to a single FIR EQ Transfer Function
(MP) - Snapshots Onboard – load snapshots from front panel touchscreen
- Ember+ – widely adopted broadcast control protocol
(MP/MC Add-on) - OSC (Open Sound Control) – relatively New-Kid control protocol rapidly being adopted across the audio industry; and, despite the name, also used in lighting and video control
(MP/MC Add-on) - SHOW/CONFIG – modes protect the core settings of your PRODIGY unit from inadvertent changes.
DirectOut has also expanded the PRODIGY hardware with the addition of:
- Dante.SRC.IO – HD-SRC equipped Dante .IO interface
- RAV.SRC.IO – 128ch HD-SRC equipped Ravenna/AES67/ST2110-30/-31 with NMOS .IO interface
- SG.IO – 128ch Soundgrid Audio-over-Ethernet interface
- SG.SRC.IO 128ch HD-SRC equipped Soundgrid Audio-over-Ethernet interface

As a closing thought: for a future news post, I totted up the number of resilience features that might be hosted by the PRODIGY.MP.
I was impressed…
How many do you reckon?
