Update, Consolidate and Integrate Your Dolby Digital Systems
Even with the introduction of immersive audio, the ability to author/encode/decode formats such as Dolby E, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and compatible stereo remains essential in many environments. Hence many facilities have a full complement of the original Dolby units which, to cover all the Dolby bases, can represent up to 7U of valuable operational rack space – not to mention the additional space required for cooling.
The Jünger Audio D*AP8 consolidates all that Dolby functionality into 1U and makes it shareable, remote controllable and routable. This new accessibility and convenience allow the installation of the Dolby-equipped D*AP8 in engineering racks, releasing that 7U of operational rack-space for more useful and creative tools.
A sensible operational and engineering decision.
A Jünger Host with a lot of Dolby
Jünger Audio’s highly regarded D*AP8 multi-channel processor platform can host two Dolby 5.1 encoder/decoder cards which, with the onboard tools of the Jünger host, effectively replace up to six original Dolby devices:
- DP570 – Multichannel Audio Tool
- DP571 – Dolby® E Encoder
- DP572 – Dolby® E Decoder
- DP569 – Dolby® D Encoder
- DP563 – Pro Logic II Encoder
- LM100 – Loudness & Dialnorm Meter
Replace all six units with a single D*AP8, recover upto 7U of rack space and update how you deploy this still-essential technology across your facility.
The D*AP8 is available in three guises.
- D*AP8 TAP – 8ch multi-function transmission or finishing processor
- D*AP MAP – 8ch monitoring controller
- D*AP8 FLX – 8ch barebones platform which can have a selection of processes enabled by additional license activation.
Each of these variants can host one or two Dolby processing cards, each configurable as an all-format (D/D+/E/ProLogic) decoder, Meta-data emulator and Dolby D/D+ or Dolby E encoder.
In a fully equipped single 1U unit, that’s two decoders, two metadata emulators and two encoders.
Additional capability
The Dolby and D*AP8 TAP combination becomes an all-in-one finishing and Dolby encoding platform for 5.1-plus-stereo productions such as live sports or entertainment programming. The D*AP8 TAP includes Jünger’s Level Magic loudness control, to guarantee the delivery meets the required loudness specification.
Host the Dolby cards in the D*AP8 MAP monitoring processor and, with the support of the meta-data emulation, the combination is a highly capable surround monitoring and QA platform with monitoring control via any studio, gallery or control room web browser.
Or, if you only need Dolby encoding and decoding, deploy the D*AP8 FLX and simply route source and output channels directly to the appropriate Dolby encoder and decoder I/O ports.
In addition to the standard Dolby provision, the D*AP8 also adds Loudness Metering, Metadata Management, Programmable Events and, with an optional license, Loudness Logging.
Integration
Connect your Dolby hosting D*AP8 to your audio router to make it available to any of your facility’s studios, edit suites or workshops.
Audio I/O connections can be made to the onboard AES3id BNCs or via optional modular interfaces for multichannel MADI, Dante/AES67 and HD-SDI installed in the two I/O slots.
The D*AP8 is controllable from anywhere in the facility via a standard web browser, using a touchscreen if preferred. It can also be managed from a facility or broadcast control system using the Ember+ protocol.
